Why extra charging safety matters

Damaged or overheating lithium-ion batteries can undergo thermal runaway, releasing heat, fire, toxic gases and fragments. Charging requires early detection, electrical isolation, fire protection and suitable extraction.

Eight important RT362 safety functions

• Connected smoke and heat alarm: warns personnel and configured connected users when abnormal conditions are detected.
• Door-open alarm: after 60 seconds, an audible/visual alert and automatic interruption of charging power.
• Automatic electrical shutdown: cuts power to chargers during an incident; this cannot stop a thermal runaway that has already begun.
• Automatic fire-extinguishing equipment: intended to help limit flames and propagation.
• Flame protection: shield designed to cool escaping hot gases and limit flames outside the cabinet.
• Anti-ballistic grid: helps contain hot fragments and projectiles.
• Dry contact: enables connection to a compatible external alarm or building management system.
• Manual test circuit: supports inspection and maintenance of detection functions.

Thermal runaway classification and battery limits

The P rating relates to the maximum energy of one battery; the T1 rating specifies an external surface temperature-rise classification. Respect both the individual battery limit and total cabinet energy limit.

Fire protection and construction

90-minute approved external fire resistance according to EN 14470-1 and EN 1363-1; tested for 105 minutes. Fire-stop panels have an EI 180 classification according to EN 13501-2. EI 180 applies to the panel construction, not a separate whole-cabinet 180-minute approval. Triple-wall insulated steel construction, expanding seals and self-closing lockable doors.

CDV-A ventilation is highly recommended for lithium-ion battery charging where compatible. CDV-A is a separately selected accessory and is not included in the base cabinet unless confirmed in the quotation. Verify compatibility and site requirements before installation.
